    Our daughter is anorexic

"Our 16 year-old daughter is anorexic. We didn't find out until 3 years after she started to suffer with the illness. She was quite plump once she hit puberty but she was an active girl so when she started shedding pounds we just thought it was due to her passion for sport.

"We were horrified when she came to us to tell us one day that she was starving herself and that she was desperately unhappy with her body. We were lucky because most don't tell their parents.

"At first we struggled to cope with it as a family, we thought we were at fault and that something was wrong with us while our daughter thought she was at fault and something was wrong with her.

"Thankfully we learned about the illness and now understand what is is, together we are all coping much better now and while our daughter is still thin, she is no longer starving herself and is on the road to recovery." -
